H-Expander:
Every Hagstrom electric guitar and bass incorporates our patented H-Expander truss rod. This truss rod, spanning the entire length of the neck and providing tension at both ends, offers a rigid yet lightweight alloy construction. It enables exceptionally low action and a slim neck, factors that played a crucial role in establishing Hagstrom as the world's fastest-playing guitar. The H-Expander truss rod not only ensures ultimate neck stability but also contributes to Hagstrom's distinctive tone. Longer sustain and a rounded attack are among the sonic characteristics added by the H-Expander, enhancing the tonal essence of Hagstrom.

Sustain Block Tailpiece:
Hagstrom's unique Sustain Block Tailpiece was developed through meticulous design work that commenced in 1976 and made its debut on the Swede and Super Swede guitars in 1978. Since then, it has become a signature feature of many of our solid body models. Each string terminates in a single, substantial brass block directly connected to the guitar's body. These blocks are isolated from one another to minimize interference between the strings, maximizing the individual contribution of each string.

Set Neck:
Within our range, Hagstrom utilizes various neck joints. Our set-neck configuration employs the classic and time-tested Mortise and Tenon joint, a design that efficiently transfers string energy from the neck to the body. Often found only on more expensive custom-built guitars, our team of experienced and dedicated craftsmen meticulously carve each neck joint, ensuring flawless execution of this traditional technique favored by luthiers for generations.

Resinator Wood:
Resinator wood is a composite material that exhibits greater density uniformity and stability than standard wood products. These characteristics eliminate dead spots or "wolf tones" sometimes associated with conventional wood fingerboards. Resinator wood produces an articulate sound akin to high-quality ebony, without any of the issues commonly associated with ebony. It provides a stable and clear tone, while also accentuating higher overtones and harmonics that intricately embellish each note. Similar to our H-Expander truss rod, Resinator wood plays a significant role in defining the distinctive "Hagstrom tone."

Hagstrom Machine Heads:
Hagstrom models feature machine heads with gear ratios of either 18:1 or 15:1, based on our own designs, ensuring precise and accurate tuning. In the case of Viking and HB series basses, the machine heads possess a 17:1 gear ratio.
