1. Classical guitars are commonly referred to as nylon string guitars due to their use of nylon strings, which produce a warm and mellow tone.
2. They are designed with a wide, flat fingerboard and a wider neck compared to steel-string acoustic or electric guitars.
3. Classical guitars typically feature a body shape known as "Spanish" or "Classical," characterized by a wide lower bout and a narrow waist.
4. The top (soundboard) of a classical guitar is often made of spruce or cedar, while the back and sides are commonly constructed from mahogany, rosewood, or maple.
5. They are commonly played with fingerpicking techniques, such as plucking the strings with the fingertips or using classical guitar-specific techniques like arpeggios and rasgueados.
6. Classical guitars usually have a lower string tension compared to steel-string guitars, making them more comfortable for beginners and players with sensitive fingers.
7. The bridge of a classical guitar is typically tied with knots to secure the nylon strings, rather than using bridge pins.
8. Classical guitars often have a distinctive slotted headstock design, which contributes to their traditional aesthetic.
9. They are commonly used in classical music, flamenco, bossa nova, and other genres that benefit from their unique tonal qualities.
